There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet over the past couple of days about Facebook Graph Search, and if you have a local business, graph search is going to be important to you.

With this new way to search socially, you’re going to find out what your friends like, what they say about the places they visit, and how the service was, the quality of the product you’re selling, and many other aspects of how your business is run.  Here’s Mark Zukerberg to tell you more:

Graph search is still in beta, and it may not be available to you yet, as Facebook is rolling it out slowly. And it has huge implications. Zukerberg has been quoted as saying they would love to have worked with Google, but Google’s own Google Plus, though important to Google, doesn’t seem to be as important as Facebook to everyone else.

Having a Facebook page for your business is important, and Search Engine Land’s Matt McGee also suggests that you put as much information into your page’s About section as possible — location, phone, hours of operation and recommends attracting more fans to your page. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in the distant future. I have been saying for years that social media will at some point replace traditional search in that results pages will be more oriented to what people want, rather than what search engines want to serve us. Let’s see if that prediction holds true.
