Did you know that more than 20 percent of the searches at Google are for local businesses? If you think that’s impressive, guess what? The percentage doubles when you’re talking about mobile devices. People are looking for YOUR business at home and on their cell phones!

So, what should you do to get in on some of that great, free organic traffic?

One thing, and probably the first thing you think of is Google Places. Yep. That’s definitely something you need to do. Get in there. Use a picture, make sure your listing is complete… But that’s not going to make your business golden.

Here are some other sites where you need to make your business take hold:

  1. Yelp
  2. Kudzo
  3. Angie’s List
  4. Yahoo Local
  5. Trip Advisor
  6. Merchant Circle
  7. Superpages
  8. Yellow Pages
  9. Dex Knows
  10. Judy’s Book

And that’s just 10 of the places where you can go to get your business listed. The way things pop up online, there are probably five more before I stop typing.

The bottom line is this: Get your business into as many places as you can possibly make it known in. It will help you to establish your presence, not just in your neighborhood, but online. Every one of those sites is a link pointing back to your business’s website, and that is all good because every link pointing back is considered to be a “vote” for your site by the search engines. The more links you have pointing back, the better your business’s website will be situated in search engines.

And they certainly can’t hurt, right?
